Earworms are involuntary musical imagery—a tune that "gets stuck" in your head without you choosing to imagine it. They are distinct from voluntary auditory imagery: you can have frequent earworms but weak voluntary control over inner sound, or strong voluntary auditory imagery but few earworms. The Imagination Index measures voluntary auditory imagery (how clearly you can imagine sound when you try), not earworms per se.
